The most fought over piece of galaxy in known space, the battleground of 8 wars and the home to many species and nations all attempting to coexist in their own piece of space. The Solus has been the name given to the space between the Shard Nebula and the core arm of the Domum galaxy since the original exploration by the Doran Lords.

“In order to guarantee peace, this war must be won to settle the feuds of old and put right the wrongs of our people”
Cargoan Doran: 1st Doran Emperor on the Outbreak
The Outbreak
The Outbreak marked the start of intersystem contact and conflict in the Solus, it occurred just after the mighty Doran Lords took to to the vacuum of space and embarked on a mission of expedition. They encountered many nations, all logged in the journals of Cargoan, and that first trek showed the extent of a populated piece of space surrounded by Nebulae and Asteroid fields, which they called the Caleire or the Lonely Place.
They soon met the Eagilitian people, an avian species who dealt in honour and the hope to expand and learn. They were given the journals of the Corgoan for their hospitality and warmth to the Doran explorers and these few books became the start of the Archive Via. The old Eagilitian word of Solus was used instead of Caleire and the name stuck as the journal was copied and distributed to the common people. It was these tales that inspired the Eagilitians to take to space and begin the Royal Naval Corp which became the Eagilitan Royal Navy nearly a century later.
The Doran met many more people, like the peaceful people of the Albion O System, the Persi and Sphsi. They learned of many agricultural methods and vast expanses of knowledge in how the use of certain metals and substances could boost a vessels speed significantly and produce a field capable of maintaining jumps for much longer than the Doran Drive system. This was a major turning point in the Solus’s history. The information was transferred back to the Eagilitian, studied then distributed back around new space. The Eagilitians developed the Ascension Turbine that used coils of Gritine to enable intersystem travel. It required very little fuel and could jump nearly 3 sytems but was expensive to make. A real breakthrough was to take place on a nearby planet, the first that Eagilita discovered, Werqau.
Werqau was a world made up of magma flows and deep oceans that was thought to be inhabited until deeper exploration discovered underground and underwater settlements that contained many crustacean like lifeforms that were highly skilled in forging vast amounts of metals and creating vessels of large caliber extremely quickly and efficiently. The Eagilitians deemed these as suitable manufacturers of a new, smaller velocity drive based off of the Albion O design. The many field tests resulted in the A0-11c Velocity Unit. This allowed for the domestic use of intersystem travel and the ability for empires to expand rapidly. The devices were originally given to the dominions of Doran and the fledgling Eagilitian kingdom but they quickly spread to rest of the Solus. This was the beginning of the Outbreak.
